L. Leroy opened shop over 230 years ago. At times it was the finest watchmaker in the world, its clients including the likes of Marie Antoinette, Queen Victoria, Winston Churchill and Napoléon Bonaparte. Its major achievements include being awarded the “Royal Warrant” by Queen Victoria in 1863, which made it the only foreign company to be official watchmaker to the Queen of England. Nearly 40 years later, L. Leroy created the world’s most complicated watch, a crown it held until 1989. Like many watch brands, L. Leroy was all but wiped out in the eighties, but new ownership in the 21st century has breathed fresh life into the brand.
Vintage L. Leroy watches are collector’s prizes, while 21st century used and pre-owned L. Leroy watches are also highly treasured. The modern editions can be compared with the likes of haute horlogerie watchmakers F.P. Journe or A. Lange & Söhne.
