If you’re aching for a time when it was socially acceptable to bedazzle all of your belongings with rhinestones and low-rise jeans were all the rage, we’ve got some great news for you: the noughties are back!
While noughties fashion may be a marmite love-it-or-hate-it situation, we can’t wait to crack out our coloured-lens sunglasses and Von Dutch trucker caps to celebrate the decade that gave us Girls Aloud and Legally Blonde. You could even pick up a piece of noughties fashion history with one of our pre-loved designer handbags, the perfect way to add an authentic touch to all your noughties-inspired outfits.
Imagine the laid-back nineties had a loud, energetic younger sibling and you’ve already got a pretty good idea of what noughties fashion was all about. This vibrant decade gave us some of the most iconic fashion trends that are being given a reboot this year, for nostalgic style with a modern twist. So, whether you’re an Elle Woods or Avril Lavigne, we can all embrace our favourite noughties icons with one of this season’s most exciting trends.
In 2001, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake took to the red carpet at the AMAs and gave us one of the most memorable looks of all time - top to toe denim. While we’re not saying you have to recreate this look in all its stonewashed glory (unless you, like, really want to), the denim-on-denim trend is back in all it’s glory so get your Drew Barrymore on with this look. We have paired a white tank top with a gorgeous long line Denim skirt, to complete this we opted for an oversized denim jacket on over the top for an easy way to nail the double denim look, or go one step further by teaming a your high waisted jeans with a denim cowboy shirt. You could even channel your inner Britney by adding our denim look saddle bag. The perfect place to store your flip phone and lip gloss while you were out and about, micro bags were absolutely everywhere in the noughties. With a shoulder strap that was just long enough for the bag to tuck under the arm, they were an absolute style staple of the decade, like the Fendi Baguette bags often sported by the eternally stylish Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City.
Although the iPhone is a lot bigger than our old Motorola Razr, there’s still plenty of room for all the essentials. One of the earliest signs that the noughties was set to make a comeback was the re-release of the Dior saddle bag, so snap up one of this year’s most-wanted handbag.
Inject this noughties trend into your wardrobe with this Legally blonde inspired outfit. In 2001 Reece Witherspoon graced our screens as the happy-go-lucky fashionista Elle Woods, we couldn’t have been inspired more by the endless shades of pink and statement accessories that were brought to light. We paired an adorable fluffy crop top with a long line 90’s cut pink leather skirt for a combination of textures and of course threw in a pair of rose tinted sunnies. Our Chanel Denim Le Boy Tote was the perfect bag to tie into this outfit together whilst also creating a break between the tones of Pink.
No list of noughties trends would be complete without mentioning monogramming. Whether you’re all about the all-over monogram - think Lindsay Lohan’s rainbow Louis Vuitton logo bag in Mean Girls - or something a little plainer, like a pair of those Juicy Couture sweatpants, adding something monogrammed to your outfits is the perfect way to give a nod to the noughties.
We paired ‘army pants and flip flops’ with a jersey crop top and added one our most favourite monogrammed bags from our pre-loved collection the Louis Vuitton Fuschia Monogram Vernis Leather Sullivan Horizontal PM (just in time for October 3rd!).
The noughties was a sparkly, sparkly place, and we are so okay with that. From shimmering chain mail tops and dresses to bell bottom jeans encrusted with diamantés - making a statement in the noughties was easy.
Here we recreated a moment in fashion no one could possibly forget - Paris Hilton’s 21st birthday look with a shimmering silver mini dress - there was no limit on how much sparkle one outfit could contain in the noughties! We stayed in keeping with the theme pairing the outfit with our silver hardware black satin timeless wristlet.
Pedal Pushers were seen everywhere in the noughties. For those who can't quite remember, pedal pushers were not quite long enough to be trousers nor short enough to be shorts. JLo was the inspiration behind this look - her white pedal pushers with diamante accessories paved the way for many others to put their own spin on the trend.
Here we paired a corset top with a glittering diamond belt but ‘don't be fooled by the rocks that I got, I’m still Jenny from the block’, this Paris-Moscou Flap bag added just the right amount of elegance to complete the look.
Western styles such as leather trousers and cowgirl boots owed an awful lot to the 2000’s blockbuster Coyote Ugly. Every woman wanted to be either a cute Violet, a playful Cammi, a fierce Rachel or a sexy Zoe. With this trend here to stay for the upcoming winter months, throw on your animal print and your rodeo chic for drinks with the girls and make it a stiff one because ‘do we serve water in this bar? HELL NO H20’.
We styled these snakeskin leather style flares with a contrast snakeskin boot. This Christian Dior Boston 20cm provides a contrasting colour to stand out from the print.
