The fashion industry is constantly evolving with trends developing and changing daily, and menswear is no different. Here at Xupes handbags, not only do we focus on the women’s ever changing trends in the world of fashion, we have loved watching the evolution of menswear. The recent interview with our Head of Handbags and Accessories, Reece Morgan, made it evermore apparent that men’s perception on handbags is changing. Menswear fashion is evolving and becoming more daring, and with that so is their love of leather accessories. Becoming almost as well sought after and a highly anticipated addition to menswear runways, fashion houses such as Louis Vuitton and Chanel are becoming first movers in the world of luxury male leather goods. Virigl Abloh and Pharrel Williams have both launched male and unisex handbag ranges slowly redefining the handbag and accessory world.
Accessories have become a key element of men’s styling. This shoot was inspired by our favourite menswear trends of 2019 and a prediction of those yet to come. Our fashion stories are created to influence how both men and women accessorise their everyday wardrobes. While some are likely to adhere to one trend, others are chameleons of the fashion world, either way there is something for everyone in this edit.
Alessandro Michele the creative director of Gucci is the physical embodiment of the brand and all it has to offer, often seen in sequins or embroidery. Gucci cruise 2019 was shown in May this year in Arles, France and this collection brought us a whole host of inspiration when it comes to heavy embellishment for men. Our first look is a take on this collection and features our Chanel Gabrielle Hobo cross-body. This handbag is traditionally worn by women but cross-body bags have been featured more than ever on the menswear fashion show runways this season. Aged Calfskin is an ideal texture as it has that perfect slouch effect that gives a more relaxed element to a tailored outfit.
A favourite trend we have seen taken to new highs in the recent runway shows is androgyny. The gender roles have been constantly blurred and we have loved watching the shift to allow men to be more expressive with femininity perfected by the likes of Jared Leto sporting blouses & bows. For this look we really felt there was no better pairing than our Louis Vuitton Virgil Abloh Keepall.
Together with period dated silhouettes and contemporary accessories this look draws parallels to modern design. We love the contrast between the soft white frills and the vibrant orange chain detailing on our Keepall Bandouliere 50.
The New Preppy
The ‘preppy’ look is most commonly identified as a crisp oxford shirt, chino trousers with a relaxed jumper placed on the shoulders. The ‘new preppy’ takes this look and adds a high fashion twist. Our modern take features a burnt orange, clean cut shirt, relaxed navy chinos and frame glasses. We have finished off the look with a Hermes Gold Togo Leather Special Order Birkin 40cm.
Our ultimate style take-away from 2019 is the notion that tailoring is not restricted solely for formal occasions and we have seen so many fashion brands support its revival.
Our favourite of them all so far has to be Dior. Kim Jones visionary fall 2019 runway show gave us a moving runway with a flurry of alternative tailoring. Belt bags worn cross-body are the perfect accessory for such looks and have become increasingly popular thanks to like of Jones. It therefore seemed fitting to finalise this look with our Hermes Indigo & Raisin Cristobal, Veau Doblure Leather Cityslide.
Textured layering has developed in new ways over the last year, with men in layered trouser and skirt combinations, in harsh leathers and soft tulle. Here we have pulled together a clean white shirt and simple black slim fit trousers layered with a full length mesh dress. Texture is an important aspect of any outfit and has the power to make or break the aesthetics of an ensemble. We accessorised this look with our Louis Vuitton Graphite Damier Coated Canvas Cotteville 45. This beautifully crafted piece creates an element of structure to this soft take of layering.
In closing, do not stay within the confines of last year’s purchases. Add something exceptional to your wardrobe today to push the boundaries and you may be surprised at what you might achieve.
