The Costume Institute Gala at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art is the biggest event on the fashion fundraising calendar. This highly anticipated first Monday of May brings about a sense of excitement which rustles amongst the fashion illuminati in the weeks and days running up to the event; we can now say in certainty that 2019 was well worth the wait. With the theme revealed as ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’ it was expected to see the barriers of fashion pushed and featuring some daring looks to take the ‘pink’ carpet. The bigger, more flamboyant and outrageous, the better.
Marking the event's 71th anniversary, the evening was co-chaired by Lady Gaga, Alessandro Michele, Harry Styles and Serena Williams. All of whom made their own individualistic impact with their attire. Lady Gaga graced the carpet in a billowing pink gown with a 25-foot long train, working her way through 3 outfits before even reaching the entrance and finally ending up in nothing but her Tiffany and Co. jewels and crystalised underwear. As one may expect New York jewellery brands got a big boost on the evening with Tiffany and Co., De Grisogono, Chopard and Lorraine Schwartz were the most commonly featured leading jewellery designers and dressing the likes of Lady Gaga, Lily Collins, Gigi Hadid, Serena Williams and Kylie Jenner.
Our selection of the best jewels which stole the show are as follows:
The Tiffany and Co. diamond butterfly necklace, diamond bracelets and rings were the only constant theme with Lady Gaga’s outfit - a ‘hostess with the mostess’!
It wasn't only the women accessorising their look with a touch of sparkle, Harry Styles was seen searing an all-black ensemble with a single pearl earring going for a more understated look.

Congratulations @harrystyles, you won #MetGala 2019. 🏆 There’s a brilliance about the way Styles experimented with this feminine Gucci look - a tattooed torso visible through a sheer shirt complemented by just the right amount of ruffles. ⠀ ⠀ What made Styles’ outfit so special were the details that went into it. Fun fact: Styles only got his ears pierced a few days ago, after his stylist Harry Lambert discovered the earring on the Gucci website. ⠀ ⠀ “I think everyone was expecting Harry to be in sequins, bright colors, and a crown, but we decided on a different type of ‘camp’ that hopefully would surprise,” says Lambert. “Harry and myself went through all the fabrics, sketches, and ideas, and shared our favorites. From there, Gucci produced samples of these and fittings commenced.” ⠀ All that hard work definitely paid off. ⠀ ⠀ 📷: Getty
Nick Jonas’s styling was a head to toe white suit with sparkling Chopard Jewels. Accompanied by Priyanka Chopra the newlyweds exude glamour and sparkle with not only their outfits but their diamonds. Priyanka also selected a number of different Chopard Jewels, including 88.82-carat pink sapphire earrings, layering three pendant necklaces from the “Happy Diamonds Collection” whilst stacking wearing multiple bracelets from the ‘Haute Joaillerie’ collection. Her jewellery choice was certainly extravagant and over the top, keeping in theme.
