Wimbledon Watches For the Stands

It’s nearly that time of year when we all reignite our tenuous interests in tennis so that we can don our finest and join the royals and the stylish at the original Lawn Championships. Despite the fact that only seven tournaments since 1922 haven’t suffered rain delays, we’ll be refreshing our collection of summer dresses, linen jackets, chipper hats and if we’re lucky enough, luxury summer watches.

Officially, tennis and watches have gone hand-in-hand since 1978, when Björn Borg won Player of the Year and Rolex first sponsored Wimbledon. But long before then, the stands of major tournaments were filled with the finest watches money can buy.

For those interested in what sort of watches might excite the crowd at Wimbledon 2016, we picked the brains of the Xupes watches team for their top men’s and women’s recommendations. They’ve opted for, amongst others, modern examples from Rolex, obviously, and Cartier and Jaeger-LeCoultre, two cornerstones of British watch style. These watches will undoubtedly be some of the trendiest on show at this year’s grass tournament.
