The trend for LED has been prominent since the late 90s. Alexander McQueen crafted an LED-embellished bustier for Givenchy’s Fall show in 1999. McQueen was inspired by the horror that the new millennium was predicted to bring and created a techno, light-up spectacular for the runway.
More recently, Zac Posen created a fairytale ball gown with LED-laced seams in the bodice for Claire Danes to wear to the 2016 Met Gala. Never one to miss a trend (if they aren’t already starting them), the house of Chanel released this light-up Classic Single Full Flap bag in 2014. With few found on the market today, Lagerfeld’s creation was a daring change for the house at the time and likely laid the foundations for the modern LED Boy bags Chanel released in their Spring 2017 collection.
Our 2014 example features LED strip lighting which is stitched within the embellishment detail. You can control the lighting from static to multiple flash settings. The bag itself is is in an exceptional pre-loved condition and is provided with the Chanel Dustbag and Authenticity Card. Light-up handbags created by Chanel are always made in very small quantities, usually within the hundreds world-wide, and this bag is a stunning example.
