The topflight sport keeps coming in May! And this time its the round ball and FA Cup! It’s all on the line and Liverpool supporter’s up and down the country are still holding their breath on what could be a historic season!
The inaugural FA Cup tournament kicked off in November 1871. After thirteen games in all, Wanderers were crowned the winners in the final, on 16 March 1872. Wanderers retained the trophy the following year. The modern cup was beginning to be established by the 1888–89 season, when qualifying rounds were introduced.
If Chelsea snap it up this weekend, it will be for the ninth time. If Liverpool triumph, it will be the eighth time. But, even though the FA Cup is a tournament with a long and rich history, the teams are playing for a prize which is nowhere near that age. There have been five trophies made since the tournament began in 1872. The very first trophy was made for £20 and went by the nickname of the ‘little tin idol’.
Here at Xupes, we thought a good old fashioned watch head-to-head between a few key members of each team would be the true decider on who should come out on top! Firstly, it had to be the team leaders – the coaches, Jürgen Norbert Klopp vs Thomas Tuchel. Jürgen has been spotted with a range of interesting modern IWC’s – here in his Big Pilot Laureus edition. Thomas on the other hand has gone for something in all black: a Hublot Big Bang in ceramic.
All that is left to say is, do comment below on who takes it for you on the watch front! We know you will be watching the action on the pitch but no doubt will also be keeping an eye on the watch game on show as well!
