Our Opinion
Offered here is a stunning example of the Rolex Submariner Transitional model with the vintage style Plexiglass and gloss dial with white gold hour plots reference 5513 manufactured in the second half of 1987.
This late transitional example has the correct dial for its R923---- serial number. The gloss dial with applied white gold hour plots along with the vintage style Plexiglass Submariners is highly sought after in Rolex vintage collecting.
The 5513 was introduced in 1962 and like this moderately revised model in the line-up until 1989 - making it one of the longest-running model references in the Rolex range. These gloss dials with applied white gold hour plots and Plexiglass examples were only in production for approximately 5 years from 1984 to 1989.
The overall condition of this Submariner is excellent. We consider the case to have been lightly detailed in the past, but still retains strong symmetrical lugs and crown guards along with the brushed finish to the top surfaces and chamfers remaining correctly defined, the bezel has no dings or scratches and compliments the appearance of this Submariner along with its original MKIV bezel insert.
The gloss dial has retained its factory gloss appearance, with the tritium hour plot markers and hands all showing a slightly rich colour on this Neo Vintage piece. The correct raised dome Plexiglass is free of any scratches or marks.
This stunning Submariner comes on a slightly later correct bracelet reference 93150 Oyster bracelet stamped V2 dating to 1996 with 580 end links, we presume this was replaced by Rolex during its life. The bracelet is showing minimal wear and stretch. It is accompanied by its original Rolex inner and outer boxes, booklets and open dealer-stamped guarantee/warranty certificate dated June 1988.
