We are thrilled to offer this vintage Girard Perregaux Casquette in Polycarbonate reference 9939 and manufactured circa 1976.
Casquette History And Description
The research and development of the "Casquette" Girard Perregaux named this model internally began in 1974 in GP's own electronic department.
Based on a high precision so-called electronic mother clock with a nixie tube display to control subordinated clock units the next step was a small desktop clock where already macrolon was used for the housing.
The Casquette was finally launched to the public in January 1976 and was only produced until November 1978. Girard Perregaux was innovative and daring to invest in the development of a special module like the Casquette LED watch.
The Casquette was produced in three materials: stainless steel (reference 9931), 18k gold-plated (reference 9934) and Macrolon, a polycarbonate (reference 9939, which also included the updated in-house 396 calibre). The latter was unusual in the era and extremely lightweight at only 37 grams / 1.3 ounces.
The overall condition of this vintage Casquette is excellent, it is presented on a grey calf leather strap with a stainless-steel Tang buckle.
This uncommon Girard Perregaux Casquette is accompanied by factory service papers and Xupes presentation inner and outer boxes.
