IWC Ingenieur SL Stainless-Steel Reference IW1832

Offered here is a stunning example of the IWC Ingenieur SL Stainless-Steel IW1832 manufactured circa 1983.

In the mid-1970s IWC decided to redesign the Ingenieur to give it a more fashion forward look, and with the new model, IWC tried to emulate the concept of one of its rivals. A few years earlier, Audemars-Piguet had scored a major success with a luxury steel sport watch, the Royal Oak, designed by Gerald Genta. Soon thereafter IWC hired to design a newly conceived Ingenieur, along with two new watches, the Golf Club and Polo Club. These were all included in what IWC called its “Collection SL”. IWC's "SL catalogue" from 1976/77 indicates that the SL designation originally meant "Steel Line" - a further indication that the new collection was intended to evoke the success of the Royal Oak as a luxury steel watch. However, with the subsequent inclusion of non-steel watches in the SL line, along with the passage of time, the SL designation is now more often viewed as meaning “Sports Line”.

The Jumbo SL was presented to the public in 1976 and was available in stores in 1977. It was a large watch on a substantial integrated bracelet and was available with the enhanced, super-antimagnetic c.8541ES movement. All are truly rare pieces. Because of its large case (40mm diameter, 12mm thick) the ref. 1832 Ingenieur is also affectionately referred to as the "Tresor" (German for "safe" or "strong room"), or the "Jumbo" or "Fat" Ingenieur.

The overall condition of this discontinued Ingenieur SL 1832 is excellent. The 40mm diameter stainless-steel case does not show any signs of being polished and the overall finish is beautiful. The grey baton dial is in perfect condition and is complemented by the contrasting straight shaped hands.

The stainless-steel bracelet is showing minimal wear and is in excellent condition, along with stainless-steel deployant clasp.

This beautiful IWC INGENIEUR is accompanied with its original IWC box, manual, certificate, and IWC Service papers dated 18th December 2020 -confirming a full service was carried out.
