Our Opinion

Offered here is a stunning example of the Tudor Submariner Gloss, Gilt, Single Swiss, Chapter Ring and Meters First Dial Submariner reference 7928 manufactured circa 1963.

This example has the correct dial for its 379---- serial number range. These gloss, gilt, chapter ring, meters first, large bubble seconds hand and pointed crown Submariners are highly sought after in Tudor and vintage collecting.

The history of Tudor dates to 1926, when the house of “Veuve de Philippe Hüther”, a Swiss watchmaker, registered the trademark “The Tudor” in Geneva, for Hans Wilsdorf (founder of Rolex Watch Co.) The Tudor brand was transferred to Hans Wilsdorf in October 1936, leading to the formation of “Montres Tudor S.A” 10 years later, just after the Second World War. In the years leading up to the development of the brand, Hans Wilsdorf had long considered the idea of manufacturing a moderately priced watch that would still attain the technical, aesthetic and functional characteristics of a Rolex (many of which, share identical features to their Rolex counterparts).

The early 7928′s feature the “chapter dial” where an inner ring is printed on the dial a few millimetres from the edge. The upper half of the dial features the classic small Tudor Rose. Underneath the text “Oyster-Prince.” The bottom portion differs a bit from model to model – but typically they feature the ”200m = 660ft” (denoting depth rating of course), then” SUBMARINER ” and the two last lines ” Rotor ” and ” Self-winding ” – which of course denoted the automatic movement. The following dial variations have been found so far:
MK I: Always cased in a Square Crown case. Gilt writing. Gilt track.
MK II: Gilt track – silver writing
MK III: Silver writing and no track
MK IV: Regular writing and markers like the Rolex 5513MKI dials are also seen in exclamation point (small tritium dot at 6) and Underline dial variations.

The overall condition of this vintage Tudor Submariner is Excellent. The case has been lightly polished in the past, but retains strong equal lugs, pointed crown guards along with the brushed finish to the top edges and chamfers being beautifully defined, the bezel has no dings or scratches and compliments the general appearance of this Submariner along with its original thick font insert.

The Gloss dial has retained its mirror gloss appearance, with the Radium hour plot markers and hands showing a rich patina enhancing the overall appearance of this vintage piece. The correct profile domed Plexi glass is free of any detrimental scratches or marks.

The watch comes on a later Tudor Submariner bracelet reference 9315 pressed link Oyster bracelet and matching end links. This bracelet is showing minimal wear and stretch with no discernible dents or scratches for a bracelet of this age.

This vintage Submariner is accompanied with the Xupes Presentation boxes.
