Patek Philippe is, without doubt, one of the most aspirational brands in the world. Throughout its long and illustrious history, it has produced many horological innovations including, in 1996, the world’s first Annual Calendar. This complication conveys the hour, day, date and month, with manual correction only being required on the first of March.
This stunning timepiece from the men’s Complication Collection was released at Basel 2016 to celebrate 20 years since the launch of the Annual Calendar. At 38.5mm and 11mm high, its elegant white gold case has perfect proportions and will sit very comfortably on any wrist.
Underneath the domed sapphire crystal, the silver-grey sunburst canvas provides the ideal backdrop for an exquisite dial configuration. Day of the week and the month are portrayed by an ‘inline’ double aperture beneath the printed Patek Philippe inscription, whilst the window for the day of the month sits neatly at the 6 o’clock position. Above it, a 24-hour subdial encircles a moon phase indicator, which despite its size, is unobtrusive. The hour and minute hands are a white gold ‘dauphine’ shape and polished to give maximum legibility. Perhaps the most eye-catching aspect of this watch is the applied Arabic Breguet numerals. Finished in white gold, Patek Philippe rarely utilises these markers except on special edition pieces such as this. A long elegant second hand ticks at 8 beats per second, reaching out to the minute markers and completing a highly accomplished dial estate. Combining the markers with the moon phase gives the watch an almost playful persona, making it suitable for any occasion, day or night.
Through the exhibition caseback, the 4Hz self-winding 324 calibre shows the expected high standards of finishing with Côtes de Genève stripes and bevelled edges on the bridges, circular Côtes de Genève stripes and Calatrava cross on the rotor and mirror polished screws throughout.
Secured with a black crocodile band whose white gold clasp sports the Calatrava cross emblem, this watch exudes luxury at every touchpoint. First purchased on 22 March 2017, the watch is in excellent condition with full box, manual and guarantee and will be a delight for its next owner.
