"The Heuer Autavia has to be one of the most celebrated collectible Chronographs of all time alongside the Omega Speedmaster and the Rolex Daytona.
The Autavia, aimed at automotive and aviation enthusiasts, was the first watch Jack Heuer brought to market as the new company CEO in 1962. The watch contains the manual wind Valjoux 92. This calibre was the only one used in the Autavia series with two sub registers for the chronograph – all other calibres had 3 sub dials.
This Big Eye Autavia reference 3646 is affectionately named as such due to its big chronograph sub registers, while not only being large and wide on the dial they are also contrast in colour to the black making them stand out. This white has faded and discoloured on this model as you’d expect, to a brownish colour. The rest of the dial is in excellent original condition with replacement or serviced hands. The hour markers are batons with lume spots. There are some variations of dial design throughout the Autavia history, and this variation with no numerals has a clean feel.
The 12 hour bezel has some fading and scratches that has removed some of the black bezel paint and markings, giving it an attractive look - a feel of a well-loved functional watch but not over damaged. The caseback and crown are in excellent condition, with straight bevelled lugs, round pushers and an unsigned crown.
The watch comes on a brown leather strap with pin buckle."
