Tissot is best known for creating modestly priced mechanical watches of an excellent standard. Its parent company, the Swatch Group, classes it as a mid-range brand. Over the years, it has also been known for being the official timekeeper for a number of major sporting events such as MotoGP, NASCAR and the Ice Hockey World Championships. The company was started in 1853, it immediately won international recognition for creating the first mass-produced pocket watch, and then the first pocket watch with two time zones. In recent generations, Tissot has pioneered the use of many offbeat materials in its watches, including mother of pearl, wood and granite.
