Glashütte is the name of a small town in East Germany and is the epicentre of German watchmaking and the birthplace of A. Lange & Söhne and Glashütte Original. Both were initially part of a conglomerate that was initiated in 1845 by F.A. Lange but Glashütte Original has since been taken over by Swatch group. Glashütte is one of the few watchmakers that use its own movements and currently owns ten unique movements. The company produces technically impressive mechanical watches that border the standards of its brother A. Lange & Söhne.
