Originally a hat atelier, Gabrielle Chanel opened her miliner’s studio at 21 rue Cambon in Paris in 1910. With an aim to create stylish yet comfortable clothing, moving away from the traditional corset, the designer created her first version of the Chanel suit in 1925 which soon became a hit. In 1929, inspired by soldiers’ bags and the quilted fabric of a racing jockeys’ jacket, Chanel turned her head towards designing handbags.
Today the House of Chanel is the oldest active couture house. The Chanel ateliers have always been firmly established in the upper floors of the historic building and continue to produce some of the most revolutionary designs which inspire millions globally.
This particular Chanel bag is a limited edition navy suede, red and white lambskin shoulder bag. Made to commemorate the 2008 Paris/London collection, this piece was available for a limited time. The design pays tribute to the British flag and was worn by Agyness Deyn and Emma Watson. In excellent condition, it comes complete with Chanel dust bag, authenticity card and care booklet. It is a key collectors’ piece.
