An exceptional charming Continental, possibly Scandinavian, carved stone figure of a young seated infant holding his left foot. The right leg and lower body is carved into the base with the toes of the right foot emerging to the front and the infant dressed in a gown is focused on his foot which he grasps in both hands. The quality of the carving is superb and the sculpture has a carved makers seal mark to the lower edge. Provenance: acquired in a collection of Scandinavian pottery and related items.
There is a chip to the toes on the right foot however this does not detract from this charming piece.
