LARGE VINTAGE SHERKAT ESFAHAN PERSIAN RUG

A large, hand-knotted Persian rug originating from central Persia, specifically the region of Kashan. The rug has overall measurements of 3.52m x 2.42m and retains original fringing to both ends. The rug has a distinctive and eye-catching central medallion which is very prominent due to the deep blue surrounding the design. The main colours of this rug are a warm red and deep blue, but the design is comprised from a number of different shades of blue along with ivory and green. The design on the field of the rug and also within the main border is mainly made up of flora and palmettes and also has intricate and graduating spandrel/corner designs. The people of Sherkat were worried about the quality of rugs being produced in the 50's and begun using their own weavers and also Kurk wool (this is sheared from the belly of the lamb and is incredibly soft). Many of the rugs woven were based on older and more classic designs. All of the photographs are taken by our in-house photographer and are an accurate representation of the item.
