Product Details

  • A heavy-wearing and ornate hand-knotted Persian rug, originating from western Persia, specifically the region of Bidjar. The rug is round in shape making this example rather rare. When weaving this rug a round loom would have been set up which in itself is quite an achievement considering the size and therefore weight of this rug. The dimensions of this rug are 3.00m x 3.00m and the rug has fringing around the outer edge. This example has a concentric design and features the Herati motif made up of flowers and curved leaves in a curvilinear manner. Bidjar rugs are extremely durable and hard wearing, this is due to the surface of the pile being very compact resulting in the rug having great longevity. It has been said that due to their density, in the past there have been stories of Bidjars being used to subdue the flames of a fire! Bidjar rugs are highly suited to public environments or areas of heavy foot traffic. All of the photographs are taken by our in-house photographer and are an accurate representation of the item. Please bear in mind the colours can appear different from opposing ends depending on the direction of the pile. We offer the service of viewing any of these rugs on an appointment only basis at our London (N1) warehouse and are happy to answer any further queries you may have prior to purchase.
