  • Jordanus Hoorn; the renowned Dutch Artist, had an extensive career that began as a pupil of the Painter Gerrit Toorenburgh (1732–1785). He also worked as Drawing Master for the Tekenschool voor Kunstambachten. As a City Drawing Master in 1795, Jordanus taught many an influential Arstist, such as Jan van Ravenswaay and Christiaan Wilhelmus Moorrees. Many of Hoorn's works are held in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. This fine example of his work shows the study of a Dutch girl in traditional dress on her way to market, holding a basket and gazing out at the viewer amongst a scenic Dutch landscape.
