Provenance: The extensive collection of oriental & Middle Eastern ceramics from the estate of PHDS Wikramaratna was sold in 2011 and we were fortunate to secure a large number of items from this collection which we are now offering for sale. We offer this superb medieval Islamic, possibly Persian or Iranian, pottery bowl decorated in streaked blue glazes to the inside with blue glazes around the outer body believed to date from the 10th to 12th century. This finely made bowl stands on a narrow rounded unglazed foot and with a rounded slightly conical shaped bowl. The bowl is decorated in rich blue colours around the outside with four streaked sections to the inside with white glazed sections in between. The bowl is not marked and is one of several examples we are offering from the same collection. Condition The bowl has a series of repaired clean breaks with age crazing to the glazed finish and with some filling along the cracks. The bowl has some heaping of glazes around the foot rim some containing grit.
