  • Provenance: The extensive collection of oriental & Middle Eastern ceramics from the estate of PHDS Wikramaratna was sold in 2011 and we were fortunate to secure a large number of items from this collection which we are now offering for sale. We offer this superb medieval Islamic, possibly Persian or Iranian pottery bowl decorated in blue glazes and believed to date from the 10th to 12th century. This finely made bowl stands on a narrow rounded unglazed foot and with a rounded slightly conical shaped bowl. The bowl is decorated in rich blue colours with splashes of metallic green glazes possibly from burial. The bowl is not marked and is one of several examples we are offering from the same collection. Condition The bowl has a series of repaired clean breaks with some age crazing to the glazed finish and with some small areas filled and painted. The bowl has a small chip to the foot rim with some build up of glaze containing sand and grit which causes the bowl to sit slightly sideways. A fine and rare example and an interesting item for the serious collector!
