  • We offer this fine antique Japanese bronze Tsuba is inlaid in silver with dogs below a tree to both sides and is believed to date from the Edo period 1615-1868.The Tsuba was used as a sword guard on Japanese (Samurai) swords and the quality of these was prized by their owners. The Tsuba is of rectangular form with rounded corners with a blade hole to the centre and is inset with a seated dog barking to one side set in relief in silver below a tree with further highlights in the tree and to a branch lying by its feet. To the opposite side the dog squats growling again in silver relief with silver inlaid grasses around it. There is a three character signature mark along the blade hole on one side.
