  • FROM A PRIVATE FRENCH FAIENCE COLLECTION! We offer this stylish French antique faience snuff taker character jug made by Rouen and dating from the latter 19th century. This finely made novelty earthenware character jug sits on a mound on a moulded flat base with a large twig handle. The pot bellied figure is dressed in period costume and wears a floral painted jacket with a brightly coloured hankerchief hanging from one pocket. He wears a polka dot waistcoat and half length breeches. The figure wears a small tricorn hat and has well modeled and painted facial features with a large boil on the end of his nose. In one hand he holds an open snuff box and in the other he holds a pinch of snuff. The figure is hand painted in brightly coloured enamels and is a delightful example with a Rouen painted mark in blue to the base.
