We offer this stunning antique Doulton Lambeth art pottery jug extensively decorated with detailed relief moulded floral and square designs signed AS (possibly Elizabeth A Sayers who apparently sometimes marked pieces AS as opposed to EAS) and dated 1880. This stylish stoneware jug stands on a narrow rounded foot with a slightly recessed base and is of slightly tapered cylindrical shape with a rounded section above the foot and loop handle to the side. The jug has a simple rounded top with a small pouring spout. The body of the jug is extensively decorated with an elaborately detailed relief moulded flower head and square design set above and below intricately carved borders. The handle has small relief moulded flower heads applied along the edge and the jug is painted in tones of blue, white and brown. The jug has an impressed Doulton Lambeth mark to the base along with incised initials AS together with a further indistinct artist mark. The jug is also dated 1880.
