Product Details

  • We offer this rare and stunning antique art pottery floor standing vase decorated with yellow iris flowers by Pierre Mallet and Léonce Goutard and believed to date from around 1880. Mallet and Léonce are renowned for their bird designs painted on for Wedgwood between 1870 and 1875 and their work is rare. The large tall bulbous shaped vase stands on a narrow rounded foot with a recessed base and has a narrow funnel shaped top. The body of the vase is extensively hand decorated with tall yellow iris flowers painted amidst tall turquoise leaves, some with a lustre or foil underlay glazed finish. The flower designs are painted within a gilded outline with fine gilded grasses painted in the background. The design is painted on a royal blue ground with a turquoise ground around the bottom section and the vase has a hand painted Léonce & Mallet signature mark to the base and by Léonce Goutard and Pierre Mallet. Condition The vase is offered in fine presentable condition without restoration. There are a few areas of surface glaze loss, some touched in however due to the large scale of the vase these certainly do not detract and could easily be repaired professionally. A stunning and very rare example and a wonderful display piece to add to any serious collection!
