  • We are delighted to offer this stunning antique art pottery planter decorated with a hunting scene designed by Edward Bingham and made at Castle Hedingham pottery between 1864 and 1901. Many of Bingham’s designs were based on medieval styles and were consequently quite naively and crudely potted however remain highly desirable and collected today. This delightful earthenware planter or vase stands on a rounded pedestal foot and has a rounded bulbous body with a raised hunting scene applied in relief around the body and with a stylized floral design around the top. The vase is decorated with several figures with a horse and cart with a further figure with a dead deer while other figures behind a tree watch a hound pursing a stag. The scenes are painted in a very light blue with yellow applied to the floral designs and the whole set against a mottled dark blue ground. The planter has incised EW Bingham marks to the base and is numbered 220.
