  • Probably one of the finest examples of majolica we have had the pleasure in offering is this incredible and rare antique figural centerpiece by acclaimed maker Reichard M Krause and probably dating from around 1885. This large earthenware centerpiece as all the detail and finery of some of the great British makers and then some and portrays a scantily dressed maiden supporting a tall candle stick mounted on a heavily decorated pedestal base supported on eight feet. This stunning piece has a large four sided pedestal base moulded in relief with various floral designs set with rams heads to each side with a single hoof forming one of the eight feet below. The corners have raised scroll work panels each relief moulded with an angelic head with scroll feet below and with decorative panels in between. The tall figure of a scantily dressed maiden stands on a moulded rock work base, her flowing garments gathered on the ground behind her,. She supports a single tall candle stick moulded with various floral and other designs. The centerpiece is painted in bright coloured enamels on a rich blue and brown ground and has an impressed MK shield mark for Reichard Krause and is numbered 552. A very rare and stunning piece!
