Product Details

  • We offer this stunning and rare antique Sevres coffee can with a jeweled celeste bleu ground and with three exquisitely painted portraits of Louis XVI (1754-1793) flanked to either side by Marie Antoinette (1755-1793) and Madame Elisabeth (1764-1794) and probably dating from the 18th or early 19th century. The cylindrical shaped porcelain cup has shaped handle and is very finely painted with three portrait miniatures set within an ornate gold surround with a celeste bleu with jeweled and gilded designs to the body of the cup. Each of the portraits is named under the base and the cup has an interlaced L Sevres mark containing a letter P suggesting possible production in 1768 and possibly painted later. The quality of the paintwork is comparable to original Sevres examples however must leave it to the collectors to determine this as Sevres or Sevres-style and have included large and detailed photographs to help determine this. None the less a rare and highly desirable cup.
