Product Details

  • We offer this incredible antique French Longwy majolica style twin handled vase with lion masks, scrolling dragon and floral designs By Jules Vieillard Bordeaux and believed to date from around 1880. The earthenware vase was, we believe, made as an exhibition piece, and consequently bears a hand drawn script initial mark JVBL. The large rounded baluster shaped vase stands on a narrow rounded pedestal foot with raised handles either side applied with moulded lion head terminals with smaller lion masks moulded on the actual handle. The body of the vase is decorated in low relief with panels to either side set within a decorative border, one containing a scrolling dragon and the other with floral designs in brightly coloured enamels against a heavily gilded ground. The body of the vase has a patterned random scroll work design in turquoise and blue glazes with blue glazes also applied to the foot, handle and top of the vase with gilded applications around the foot and top. An absolutely stunning and rare example!
