  • We offer this exceptional and rare antique Chinese lacquered sewing box and contents comprising of various carved sewing implements and dating from the 18th or early 19th century. The eight side box has brass swing handles attached to either end and is decorated with panels with figural scenes, landscapes and objects applied in bright and rose gold colours on a brown lacquered ground. The box has a recessed lift out tray with 13 various shaped compartments and recesses, two with lacquered and decorated handled covers. With the recesses are 5 carved thread holders, a thimble, thread winder, a lidded needle case, sewing clamps, pin cushions and other carved sewing implements. The tray lifts out to reveal a printed envelope containing various silk threads. The box also has a further pull out draw with a working lock with a further lift up lacquer painted panel and with five further compartments. The box comes complete with an original key which locks both the lid and the drawer. The box is not marked.
