  • Xupes Reference OR1307014
  • Age Late Ming circa 1650
  • Condition The vase is offered in good presentable condition with a section broken and repaired around the top. This has not been restored but would be an easy restoration to carry out. There are a few small surface chips along the break although these tend to blend into the busy design of the vase and certainly do not detract. With light rubbing to the decoration this is a fine and rare example and a wonderful addition to any serious collection!  View More Details

  • We offer this rare and exceptional antique Chinese Ming transitional garlic top vase with clobbered decoration in Western taste dating from around 1650. This large porcelain vase stands on a narrow rounded unglazed foot rim with a rounded bulbous body and a tall slender neck with a garlic shaped top. The body of the vase is elaborately and well decorated in underglaze blue with an Imperial procession of figures, the young emperor seated in a wheeled chair with a young boy leading a water buffalo kneeling in respect. The scene is set within a rocky and floral landscape with floral bands painted around the top and neck of the vase. The vase is overpainted in red, green and yellow with extensive gilding. The vase has a painted mark to the base with some simple line designs painted to the inside top.
