Product Details

  • From a private collection of art and studio pottery we offer this rare stoneware studio pottery pedestal vase believed to have been made by Hans Coper & Dame Lucie Rie and signed by the latter dating from around 1957. The stoneware vase stands on a narrow hollow conical shaped pedestal foot with a wide shaped rounded bowl top with an incised edge to the two sides. The vase is decorated in matt stone coloured glazes and has an unglazed foot rim. The vase has an impressed LR monogram which we believe dates this piece to around 1957 and has unfortunately been drilled to the base. We believe from the shape and style that this piece was made during the collaboration period between Lucie Rie and Hans Coper (1947-58) and would also have had a HC mark which has been lost with the drilling. Nonetheless still a rare and stunning example!
