  • From a private collection of art and studio pottery we offer this superb Doulton Lambeth jug commemorating the WORLDS COLUMBIAN EXPOSITION of 1893 designed by John Broad. The stoneware jug has a squat rounded body with a wide funnel shaped top and with a shaped pouring handle attached to the side. The jug is applied with an American eagle below the spout and with a portrait of Washington to one side and Christopher Columbus to the opposite side. A banner containing the words WORLDS COLUMBIAN EXPOSITION 1893 is applied around the top of the jug. The jug has an impressed Doulton Lambeth mark along with JH monogram, possibly for Jane Hurst although in Desmond Eyles, The Doulton Lambeth Wares this jug is recorded as having been designed by John Broad.
