  • From a private collection of art and studio pottery we offer this rare and large art pottery Essex Jug made at Castle Hedingham by Edward Bingham between 1864 and 1901. The rounded bulbous earthenware jug is decorated with relief three relief moulded panels one with a battle scene, another with three biblical style figures holding a banner incised ESSEX and a third with a peace demonstration and a banner with the words LIVE AND LOVE. The jug is further applied with small roman coin roundels and with shields bearing various crests and emblems. An SX emblem is applied to the base of the handle. The jug has suffered some damage to the base and is part missing its makers marks.
