Product Details

  • Originating from a private collection we are offering this superb pair of large antique oriental carved hard wood figures, one of a fisherman with two boys and another of an Immortal with a young girl dating from the 19th century. The figures both stand on carved rockwork bases carved with leaves and hollowed sections. One bearded figure stands wearing a loose robe and with his straw hat tied to his back. In his hand he holds two large fish with a young boy by his side holding the end of the tail of one. An older boy stands to the other side with a further smaller fish attached to a rope slung over his shoulder. The second figure is carved as a bearded Immortal carrying a wooden staff in one hand a flowering branch in the other with a young girl by his side holding a bat. Both figures are exceptionally well carved with inserts for teeth and eyes where appropriate and both are typically unsigned although one figure does have a small simple square mark engraved to the base. An exceptional pair of figures for the discerning collector.
