We offer this rare and stunning antique porcelain teapot and cover with a silver overlay marked for renowned up-market American retailers Shreve & Co and dating from around 1905. There were a number of distinguished makers who provided quality pieces to Shreve including many British potteries although, made from hard paste porcelain, we believe this was probably made by Lenox who made a range of similar silver overlay tea wares in the early 20th century with the silver marked STERLING a mark more commonly associated with American manufacture. The teapot has a slight ribbed design to the body and is finished in a rich celadon green glaze. It has a thickly and extensively applied silver overlay of trailing leaves and is marked SHREVE & CO STERLING. A very rare find and an exceptional quality teapot!
