Product Details

  • We offer this stunning and rare antique carved Chinese Canton ivory model of a dragon boat dating from the 19th century. The boat is carved from a solid piece of ivory with a detailed bird carved to one end and the boat shape formed from the body and tail feathers. A pagoda style cabin is carved to one end with a fence, gate and steps and has a wonderfully detailed roof. The deck is carved with a seated scholar reading a manuscript with two further standing figures, one a look out and the other directing six oarsmen seated along either side of the boat. The boat has a carved and stylized dragon head attached to the end of the hull and the boat is mounted on a small rectangular stand. The boat has a fully and intricately carved hull and, although not marked is a stunning and rare example.
