Product Details

  • We are delighted to offer this very rare and stunning antique Chinese porcelain bowl exceptionally hand painted with floral designs and dating from the Ming or early Kangxi period. There has been expert disagreement regarding the age of this bowl between the Ming and Kangxi periods but nonetheless all have admired the exceptional quality of this example. The bowl is consistent in shape and design to ‘Palace bowls’ made at the Imperial kilns at Jingdezhen, Jiangxi province during the Chenghua reign 1465-87 and is exquisitely painted with trumpet shaped and lily styled flowering plants repeated around the body of the bowl. The inner bowl is painted with a central medallion with a similar design with a simple line border with a further floral design painted around the rim. Although the bowl is not marked it retains an original paper retailers label for Bluett & Son, London who, founded in 1884, were one of the foremost dealers in Oriental art and known to have sold some of the most choice examples well into the 20th century. A very rare and exceptional bowl and a wonderful addition to any serious collection!
