Product Details

  • An original and hand-tinted antique map of the road from London to Flamborough Head, printed in 1675 by John Ogilby. Ogilby was appointed ‘His Majesty’s Cosmographer and Geographic Printer’ in 1674 and published 100 illustrated maps in his Britannia Atlas. The map is notable because Ogilby adopted the new standard mile of 1760 yards and each of these miles is clearly annotated. This section of the map, plate 41, runs from Temsford to Lincoln, with notable towns being Stilton, Peterborough and Sleaford. The map is signed in pencil to the lower right margin and is offered framed.
