Product Details

  • This pair of hand coloured woodcuts are of German origin and by the artist Rudolf Riege. They depict two scenes of the fairytale character the Pied Piper, leading lines of people in period dress through music. One print depicts the Rattenfänger (German for Pied Piper) leading the people out of a town with birds circling in the sky, whilst the second shows him leading them through what appears to be a darkened cave. Rudolf studied in Weimer and spent much of his time as a Graphic Designer/Illustrator, working mainly in woodcuts after the First World War. The prints are fine examples of German talent and are great additions to a collection.
