Eterna has long been one of the leading Swiss watch manufactures. In 1926, the company split its watch brand from its movement manufacture, giving birth to ETA—now the biggest Swiss movement maker around. Many of the top ETA movements of today are still based on Eterna designs. The brand has been quieter over the last half century, but in its heyday it was an innovator in the watch industry. Over the last two decades, it changed ownership many times; most recently, Porsche sold it to China Haidian. Under the latest leadership, it rejuvenated its efforts and at Baselworld 2014 Eterna signalled its intentions to return to former glory with a number of new releases.
