We offer an unusual set of four antique carved cowrie shells probably carved by a Welsh sailor during his travels and dating from the early 19th century. The four Indo Pacific Tiger Cowrie shells originated from a private collection and each is carved with a different message. One shell is carved with a tribute to James Moss Comedian & Vocalist Born August 19, 1833; another is carved Egan for my love, mum; another A Present from Aberporth while the last one is carved ‘A Sunday well spent brings a week of content’. An unusual set particularly with the Welsh association and a must to add to any serious collection of early shipping memorabilia.
